Role Mission: 


The Chief of Staff to the CEO of Vista College Prep will serve as the lead driver of VCP’s organizational efficiency and equity-driven strategy. This leadership position will carry the responsibility of ensuring that the CEO and organization have the systems and structures in place to achieve its core purpose in policy and practice. As the first CoS and newest member of the executive team, this person will have the unique opportunity to both enhance and build new structures that will contribute to the overall impact of VCP.  This role will have a wide lens to gather input, plan, and engage partners to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage sophisticated projects across schools. This leader will galvanize people to align in the work for scholar achievement. This role reports to the CEO. 



Your Impact:


  • Organizational Strategy 

    • Act as a strategic advisor and confidante for the CEO

    • Set and steward the strategic direction for schools and the organization

    • Organize and align strategic priorities with members of the senior leadership team ensuring the right people are passionate about the right things at the right time

    • Design, document, and implement processes that improve communication, decision-making, and execution organization-wide

    • Support to build strong organizational cultures where teams are cohesive and motivated to achieve shared goals

    • Hold the organization and others accountable to executing equity-driven strategy

    • Manage the Network Support Team office including budget, hiring, logistics, etc.


  • Communication, Progress Monitoring, and Team Management  

    • Develop and manage internal communications strategy in partnership with key stakeholders to ensure transparency, collaboration and results orientation

    • Serve as the primary project manager and lead for key strategic projects that tie across different functions of the organization

    • Determine appropriate project timelines, communication and training structures that make change more likely and successful

    • Work to ensure successful launch of new initiatives as directed by the CEO

    • Create regular email and in person communications and schedule for CEO to ensure connection to all staff and needs of organization aligned with annual calendar and tied to annual goals

    • Establish systems and structures to monitor progress, share updates, and keep stakeholders apprised of key initiatives and activities

    • Keep a pulse on the broader organizational health on behalf of the CEO, including culture, systems/processes, crisis management


  • Strategic plan

    • Plan and execute a process to engage all key stakeholders in an annual strategic planning process

    • Work with leaders of each strategic plan goal to create an annual plan to achieve network goals. Combine all goals to create one master annual plan for organizational leadership, including dashboard(s) for monitoring progress towards goals and quarterly business reviews.

    • Strategic Confidant for CEO - Push CEO on strategic thinking for organization, prepare CEO direct reports for 1:1s, ensuring strategic planning and thinking ahead of time.


  • Critical Steward of VCP’s Governing Board

    • Board meeting and retreat prep: Under the guidance of the CEO, develop and maintain a strong, engaged, and active Board, including planning board meetings and producing Board materials and engaging in Board cultivation. Manage Governing Board meetings and retreats, including working with committee chairs to set topics and create agendas. Partner with senior leaders and Special Assistant in the creation and organization of content for all board meetings, retreats, committee meetings.

    • Support general Board administration and compliance, including following Open Meeting Law and compliance regulations.

    • Board communication: Serve as a critical point of contact for all Board members to communicate key updates. Draft and edit critical memos. Prepare guests and presenters.

  • Ability to translate and structure complicated information for effective decision making and progress towards goals

  • Strong project management as well as time and task leadership skills, enabling multiple and large-scale projects to be completed on time

  • Strong collaboration skills, demonstrating an ability to gather inputs, develop recommendations, and generate consensus with partners across teams

  • Ability to learn quickly, to pivot when needed, and to be effective in a fast-paced, multifaceted, entrepreneurial environment

  • A proactive self-starter with the ability to multitask, establish and rearrange priorities, and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work autonomously and thoroughly with independent self-reflection, as well as take direction as needed

  • Ability to navigate organizational relationships and dynamics in pursuit of cross-functional solutions

  • Outstanding ability to lead and inspire change, including influencing and motivating others through relationship building

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum 6 years of working experience managing complex and/or cross-functional projects and teams

  • Education and non-profit background preferred but not required

  • Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card
