The mission of Equitas Academy Charter Schools is to provide a structured, achievement-based community that prepares students to graduate from four-year colleges and universities. Equitas Academy has been recognized as a California Distinguished School and Gold Ribbon School by the California Department of Education because of our commitment to data-driven instruction and providing a rigorous and equitable education for all students. We currently serve over 1,200 students and operate two elementary schools and two middle schools in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles, with a growth plan to open four additional schools and serve over 3000 students by 2022.

To help us achieve our mission, the Director of Expanded Learning leads the organization’s efforts to provide high quality out-of-school programming for our schools. Working closely with School Directors and the Academic Team, the Director of Expanded Learning will be responsible for curriculum vision, alignment with school day, systems and operations for the out-of-school program, and grant compliance. 


Expanded Learning Program Leadership

·       Connect in-school learning with out-of-school program

·       Work closely with the School Directors and Academic Team to develop and implement strategies for all students to reach success

·       Support Expanded Learning Site Coordinators in working with families to create strong family involvement

·       Develop Site Coordinators and Team Leaders in Teach Like a Champion Strategies, to reinforce school-wide rules and expectations in the classroom and lesson plans

·       Communicate effectively and maintain strong, meaningful and caring relationships with scholars, families and colleagues

·       Assist in the design and implementation of literacy and math curricula and other college-aligned expanded learning opportunities

·       Maintain the school culture of high academic and behavioral expectations through continuous reflection

·       Work collaboratively with school based instructional and operations teams, as well as Network staff

·       Use the detailed data analysis of student and staff performance, along with researched based tools such as CDE's Quality Standards to: evaluate program implementation; make judgments about the current state of program quality; identify avenues for program enhancement and innovation; inform plans and decisions for program improvement


Administrative Duties

·       Manage After School Enrichment and Safety Grant (ASES)

·       Hire, support, and supervise out-of-school staff

·       Provide professional development for Expanded Learning Site Coordinators

·       Plan and implement curriculum and schedule for Expanded Learning Program, including off-site field trips

·       Implement and manage systems for attendance reporting and fees

·       Complete compliance reporting including nutrition, budget, and other program reports

·       Manage dismissal and pick up procedures for scholars in the Expanded Learning Program

·       Ensure accurate payroll submission for all Expanded Learning employees

·       Support Site Coordinators in creating staff schedules and program agendas

·       Identify students who are academically at risk and initiating effective intervention strategies

·       Seek out grant opportunities for enrichment resources

·       Represent Equitas Academy in advocacy groups and forums pertaining to out-of-school and Summer learning

·       Develop relationships with external partners, including foundations, community organizations and CDE

·       Other duties assigned

·       Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively

·       Strong communication and collaboration skills

·       Ability to transition quickly from individual, detail oriented projects to collaborative, people-oriented conversations


Qualifications and Experience

·       Bachelor's degree required;

·       At least 5 years of experience, including at least 3 years of experience as a successful manager in an urban school setting who has used structure and high expectations to support student success

·       Experience managing budgets and ASES grants

·       Skilled in after school programming

·       Demonstrated ability to work well in a team, especially with parents and community members

·       Experience in staff development

·       Basic understanding of data analysis

·       Bilingual-Spanish strongly preferred


Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will be commensurate with experience within the range of $75,000-$90,000.
