Endeavor College Prep is a kindergarten through eighth grade charter school serving children from the historically underserved neighborhoods of Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights, and surrounding eastside communities. Our student population is 97% Latino, 95% free/reduced lunch, and among the highest performing in the state. We earned a 2013 API score of 870, are ranked 10 out of 10 for similar schools, became a California Distinguished School in 2012, and were ranked #8 in USC’s annual list of top charter schools in the state. 

Our team is made up of a highly collaborative group of teachers and staff who share a passion for closing the achievement gap.   We use a co-teaching structure in elementary grades modeled after the successful Uncommon Schools and Achievement First schools on the east coast. We have high expectations for academics and discipline, and simultaneously value joy in the classroom, making learning fun for our scholars and teachers.

 

Position Summary


This position will assess, diagnose, and work with students with speech and language disorders. In addition, they will participate in IEP and SST meetings and will provide consultation and monitoring as needed. This position provides direct instructional support.

 

A speech-language pathologist’s primary duties include:

  • Participation in school IEP and SST teams to assist in problem solving and program planning, as needed
  • Development and implementation of intervention strategies and support consistent with the student’s most recent evaluation, data and IEP goals 
  • Collaboration in the development and implementation of IEPs to monitor the progress of specific communication and language goals
  • Maintenance of professional records of assessment and intervention
  • Facilitation of social skills groups and other innovative supports for students with communication challenges, including those not identified with a specific disability
  • Creation of additional supports for students struggling to develop English language proficiency

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to provide the level of speech and language services needed by a special needs population within a K-8 school
  • Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with students, parents and teachers 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively write speech and language reports and evaluations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and represent our students at annual review meetings conducted by the Committee on Special Education and at IEP meetings
  • The ability to administer and interpret standardized assessment tools in both English and Spanish and recommend programming that recognizes diverse populations
  • The ability to assess communication and language learning outcomes achieved by students using a variety of assessment procedures (e.g. formal and informal testing, observation and ongoing monitoring of performance)
  • The ability to implement strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in communication and language development

Specialized Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Therapy
  • Valid California Credential authorizing service as a speech-language pathologist or speech specialist; California Speech-Language Pathology license or Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential or equivalent
  • Philosophical alignment with the college preparatory mission of the school
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a speech-language teacher or equivalent job activities with language impaired children/adolescents
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
  • High behavioral and academic expectations and strong classroom management skills
  • The desire to work as part of a team
  • Knowledge and experience using Welligent a plus, but not required
  • Facility with the Spanish language
  • Ability to travel across three campuses
